Robin,
Personally, I am hungry to hear about the editing side. I am sooo ready for an editor at this stage in my book. I think there will be lots of business-side talks, if I am reading Saturday's program correctly. Also, Carla has supplied us with articles to read about selling/promoting. Looking forward to hearing what you have to impart, no matter what you decide.

I will be attending the conference, and since I think I understand the role of the developmental editor (though I expect a 5 minute review would be useful), I'm more curious about the business side. Also, there seem to be an awful lot of people who want to give input on a manuscript, and while I generally believe feedback is good, I'd be interested to hear what you think about the various roles in the publication process and how this is changing as the industry staggers into the modern era. Thanks.

I was lucky enough to read an early draft of this novel, which is rippling with insight and attention for that which makes the rest of life branch and expand outward. I love this image of the tree, with its pulsing heart. If you like it, you'll also like his novel The Gravedigger.

In relation to the ending of flash, the skill there is in crafting a brief and concise ending that also ties up the flash story with a tight ribbon! That's not easy. Methods of tying up the short include looping the ending to the beginning, tying it back to the title (which is the main hook in flash) or twisting the ending so the reader is surprised and satisfied. There's no room for rambling in the short, so the writer's skill is paramount. kaye

Yes, I am friends with Kobbie and know Andrea who is the popular agent for the Whidbey students. She has a special relationship with us. I am currently in thesis with Bruce Holland Rogers at Whidbey, even though I live in Gainesville where there is a terrific writing network. Yes, you are correct. Whidbey is a tough program with high standards and expectations - I am grateful for that. best from Kaye

Kaye, do you know Kobbie Alamo? Or Andrea Hurst? I went to your website and saw your education was at Whidbey. A great program there; some marvelous writing comes from it. Thanks again for reading.

Well put, Kaye. Thanks for your comment. The ending is so hard to get right in a piece of short-short fiction. It has to say so much, I think, even more than the ending of a novel.
