Starting to think about my presentation at Carla King’s Self Publishing Boot Camp, Nov 12, 2011.
A full Saturday in Palo Alto at Stanford University’s Tresidder Memorial Union. I have 30 minutes to speak on the role of the developmental editor. That’s not a lot of time. What do you think: Should I talk about the business side of editing or the craft side of editing?
If you’re going to be there, please take a moment here and tell me what you’d like my focus to be. I’m looking forward to your comments and questions.

I will be attending the conference, and since I think I understand the role of the developmental editor (though I expect a 5 minute review would be useful), I’m more curious about the business side. Also, there seem to be an awful lot of people who want to give input on a manuscript, and while I generally believe feedback is good, I’d be interested to hear what you think about the various roles in the publication process and how this is changing as the industry staggers into the modern era. Thanks.

Thanks Jenna. I’ll make sure to cover this.
I look forward to meeting you on Saturday.

Robin,
Personally, I am hungry to hear about the editing side. I am sooo ready for an editor at this stage in my book. I think there will be lots of business-side talks, if I am reading Saturday’s program correctly. Also, Carla has supplied us with articles to read about selling/promoting. Looking forward to hearing what you have to impart, no matter what you decide.
